![]() Home East Midlands Wood Fuels Ltd (EMWF) is a biomass fuel producer group, currently with 28 producer members, mostly in Leicestershire. The company supplies biomass fuels produced by members and non-members and sourced from woodland, energy crops, clean wood waste and tree surgery across the region. The group currently supplies fuel in the form of wet and dry chip, wood pellets and logs to 30 heating installations.
EMWF has 3 member sites from which the fuel supply chain operates. This is expected to expand significantly over the next few years. A small wood pellet plant is operating on one site, near Melton Mowbray. A second plant, with a capacity of 5000 tonnes per annum, will open in late summer 2008.
EMWF received a £200,000 grant from DEFRA in the autumn of 2006 under the Bio Energy Infrastructure Scheme. This funding was used to procure new processing and delivery equipment to support the existing contractor base.
EMWF believes that its strength is the co-ordination of many individual landowners and contractors producing fuel from many sources to give a sustainable supply chain. This provides the customer with security of supply as the effect of the removal of one biomass stream, or the unexpected rise in prices of another biomass fuel type, can be absorbed by switching to another source.
